In the three-part project Das Theater in jedem von uns <\/em>, 17.02 - 30.06.2023, Kunstverein Arnsberg explores and investigates how processes and spaces of theater are given a form in visual\nart and in our everyday life. The series begins\nwith the solo exhibition of Farkhondeh Shahroudi\ngestern war ich so mu\u0308de dass ich\nden tee gegessen habe (yesterday I was so\ntired that I ate the tea): a sculptural fabric of\npoetic, social and political texture. Farkhondeh Shahroudi\u2018s artworks are drawn from the intertwined relationships between writing and image, between bodies and narration.\nInspired by the poetry and memories\nof Iran and her everyday life in Germany, her\nworks relate to verbal language and speechlessness.\nThey evoke the unspoken. Her work addresses translocated movements of people who are at the mercy of others, uprooted or dislocated, moving between places and worlds as if in a play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many figures in Shahroudi\u2018s work are reminiscent of traditional Iranian theater, \u201cTa\u2018ziyeh,\u201d where actors, spectators, and animals blur into a single entity on the street. In this way, images, bodies, and narratives\nare transformed through her handwriting,\nthrough sewing and weaving with different\nmaterials, into a synthetic universe that\noscillates between social and asocial, political\nand private, public and intimate, between the\ninside and the outside, between language and\nillegibility.\ngestern war ich so mu\u0308de dass ich den tee\ngegessen habe is a solo exhibition that dares\nto look the shadows of everyday life in the eye.\nAccording to psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung, a\nshadow is the sum of all the dark and especially\nrepressed feelings that are hidden inside\nus. Shadows are all that we do not want to be,\nbut at the same time often are. Shadows develop\nin every human being, starting already\nin childhood. The meaning of shadows differs\ndepending on the culture in which one\ngrows up. It belongs to life, just as light belongs\nto the day and darkness to the night.\nThe eschatology of later Zoroastrianism,\nwhich originated in Western Iran, contains the\nwidespread idea that humans cast no shadow\nwhen they arrive in the afterlife.\nFor Farkhondeh Shahroudi, the carpet represents\nthe ideal space, corresponding to\nan ancient symbolism, and in its completed\ncoherence it assimilates in itself a part of\nparadise. In her sculptures and installations,\nthese carpets evolve into mobile gardens, into\nheterotopic spaces: they have a different kind\nof spatiality that on the one hand releases the\nimagination and on the other gives form to that\nfeeling of Not Belonging that is characteristic\nof the artist in exile. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Die Ausstellung im Kunstverein Arnsberg verbindet sowohl Malerei, Objekte und Fotografie aus den fr\u00fcheren Schaffungsjahren der K\u00fcnstlerin, als auch ganz neu konzipierte Installationen und Zeichnungen. Die meisten Arbeiten werden erstmalig ausgestellt und in einer erz\u00e4hlerischen Ausstellungschoreografie gezeigt, die das Publikum dazu einl\u00e4dt, in die vielschichtigen inneren Landschaften von Farkhondeh Shahroudis Werk einzutauchen. \u2028\u2028Im L\u00e4ufe der Ausstellung wird Shahroudi eine Performance im \u00f6ffentlichen Raum entwickeln. \u2028In dieser Performance, \u201esang zani\u201c (= Steine klopfen), werden das  Publikum, und Stadtbewohnerinnen eingeladen , zu vorgegebenen Rhythmen zwei Steine aufeinander zu klopfen. Diese Klang-Prozession f\u00fchrt Shahroudi selbst, angekleidet mit einem performativen Kleid, \u201cvon weinenden B\u00e4umen\u201c aus Kautschuk Reifen, auf.  \u2028\u201esang zani\u201c ist eine performative Adaption der schiitischen Trauerzeremonie \u201edaste gardani\u201c und der Tradition des iranischen Theaters \u201eta’ziyeh\u201c, bei dem die Menschen versammelt werden, um  Ungerechtigkeiten zu beklagen. \u2028Die Performance wird zur Finissage am 16.4.2023 aufgef\u00fchrt.
