Located between the sky and the underground, water is always in a moving relationship with stone. This also applies to the renaturalized Ruhr, which should not be entered at present due to landscape protection.\n\nWe learn about the way of the walking river. Pourous limestone leading the water underground to reappear elsewhere. Pebbles that travel with the water and rebuild the landscape. The farmers hand that redirects the flow away from farmland, the industrialist hand taming rivers into straight channels and the hand of the city that, a hundred years later, lets it run wild again. For a month in June this year, there will be an opportunity to gather in the courtyard of Wedinghausen Monastery to engage in a process of re-naturalizing the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

River Biographies is an odyssey into the geology\nof the body as well as of the land, emphasizing\nthat which is not human but of which you are a\npart. Taking the form of an hour-long session\nwhere an audience of 20 people explore embodiments of natural elements of stone and water\nto form a river collectively, the artwork exists\nsomewhere between performance and a space\nfor healing and repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the life of a river is a measure of the health\nof a local ecosystem, River Biographies are living\nartworks where the shifting collective ability of\nthe group passes through the artworks score.\nEach half of the group embodies the qualities\nof water and stone, respectively, to physically\nexplore their relationship; the way in which stone\naffects the flow of the water and how water\nforms the topography of rock and stone, directing\nthe water\u2019s flow, and how both affect each\nother\u2019s temporalities. As an ongoing project, River Biographies is an international co-production and collaboration between institutions located on rivers and waterways, including the Southbank Center (Thames), Chronus Art Center (Huangpu River), Liljevalchs Konsthall (Stockholm River) and Istanbul Modern (Bosphorus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as the global water cycles connect the\nworld\u2018s rivers, the artwork is created anew for\neach new body of water in collaboration with\nlocal people (here with the project\u2018s exploration\nand adaptation to the Ruhr), but carries within it\nthe memories and knowledge of the previous locations, which are preserved in the choreography\nof the artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it is a live artwork, it will\nalso be shown as an ongoing sound installation\nwith participatory performances every Sunday at\n3pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lundahl & Seitl live and work in Stockholm.\nTheir immersive projects reinterpret the medium\nof the exhibition as interpersonal processes\nabout choreography, matter and time. They have\nbeen presented around the world, notably at the\nRoyal Academy of Art (UK), Gropius Bau (DE) and\nAccelerator Stockholm (SW), Chronus Art Centre\n(CN), the 8th Momentum Biennale for Nordic\nContemporary Art (NO), Centre Pompidou Metz\n(FR), the 3rd Kochi Muziris Biennale (IN) and with\nthe commissioned work \u201eEchoes of Alternative\nHistories\u201c at Staatstheater Kassel during Documenta\nFifteen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SWAMPING (2024 - 2026) explores how changing ecologies manifest themselves in artistic practice, particularly at the interface between water and land, between physical and mental ideological landscapes. SWAMPING serves as a projection surface to pose various socially and ecologically inspired artistic questions.\nIn addition to a selection of new and existing works by established and emerging international visual artists, Kunstverein Arnsberg invites young artists from various disciplines as well as ecologists and activists over a period of two years (2024-2026) to jointly create an artistic sensibility and imagination for an ecological past, present and future: a collective performance, four solo exhibitions, and a transdisciplinary symposium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
