Salon, a dialogue event held at irregular intervals, is intended to shed light on current topics and events, as well as general developments, not politically, but artistically and philosophically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The curator \u00d6v\u00fcl Durmusoglu will give a talk on the vivid art scene in Turkey, reflect its development since the 1990s and discuss artistic implications that shape themselves in reaction to the ruptures in the political context<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of us have been very concerned by recent developments in Turkey. However, with respect for the country and the somewhat different mentality, we cannot remain unaffected by the current state of emergency. Thousands of activists and intellectuals have been arrested, newspapers and companies have been closed, academics have been banned from leaving Turkey. And what are the artists doing? Curator and author \u00d6v\u00fcl Durmusoglu talks about the art scene in Turkey, reflects on its development since the 1990s and discusses artistic reactions to the political events. Durmusoglu (*1980 Ankara) lives in Berlin and Istanbul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ovul O. Durmusoglu is a curator and writer based in Berlin and Istanbul. She is the director\/curator of YAMA screen in Istanbul. She worked as curatorial and public program advisor for Gulsun Karamustafa’s ongoing exhibition ‚Chronographia‘ at Hamburger Bahnhof and co-edited the exhibition publication. Durmusoglu also co-leads ‚Solar Fantastic\u2019, a research and publication project between Mexico and Turkey. She has recently curated ‚Future Queer‘, the 20th year anniversary exhibition for Kaos GL association in Istanbul. In the past, she acted as the curator of the festival Sofia Contemporary 2013 titled as ‚Near, Closer, Together: Exercises for a Common Ground‘ and she organized different programs and events as a Goethe Institute fellow at Maybe Education and Public Programs for dOCUMENTA (13). Durmusoglu continues to contribute to different print and online publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
