The Kunstverein Arnsberg always organises an annual exhibition. It always takes place at the end of the year as a kind of retrospective. Again and again, it presents the artists from the annual programme together with new young positions. It is precisely in this sequence of routine, tradition and repetition that one of the most exciting exhibitions of the year takes place in Arnsberg. Free of discursive obligation and social relevance, this exhibition is dedicated to the freedom, autonomy and beauty of art.

Time and Again is the title of this exhibition. A century after Malevich's ‘Black Square’, after Marcel Duchamp's ‘Fountain’ and Cabaret Voltaire, we refer to their work again and again. Art is not timeless, it must always be seen in the context of its time, but here we realise the power of individual works and ideas that can assert themselves beyond their time. Whether we can project this claim onto young artists is highly questionable here, but we would like to challenge them and honour the older artists.

As with every Jahresgaben exhibition, members of the Kunstverein Arnsberg have the opportunity to purchase the artworks on display. Exclusively for members of the Kunstverein, we are offering editions by Julius von Bismarck, Alfredo Jaar and Santiago Sierra. Members can purchase works as annual editions and thus support not only the artists but also the Kunstverein.
