1. April – 15. May 2011

The exhibition of the New York based artists Ayreen Anastas (born in Bethlehem, Palästina) and Rene Gabri (born in Teheran, Iran) tries to create an insight into the complex position of the artist duo. Their works include texts and performances, activities and videos, that draw thoughts and occurances as a screenplay. Whether sociopolitical or philosophical, their themes are often very personal too and mix in the current working process with unpredictable occasions of their travel, meetings and talks.

The title "a world a theme a seed a sign a song a walk a smile a wall a note a date a map an and a question" is in some sense the description of the upcoming exhibition by Ayreen Anastas and Rene Gabri. For the Arnsberg exhibition, the two artists attempt to string together a fragile construction of elements which reflect upon life in times of 'austerity,' corporatism, revolution, and affective bankruptcy. Refusing to define their work through fixed mediums, the exhibition will be comprised of various approaches and gestures which the artists are currently exploring.

As a part of the exhibition, the artists will also be organizing a public event in which they will engage participants / attendees, to compose together a map of Arnsberg.
